It has taken us a bit of time to compose our thoughts on what has been going on in our world in recent weeks (and reflecting on whats gone on for too long in our past). Today is the day we break our silence and stand in solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement. We want justice and equality for all. We feel it is necessary to speak up and use our platform to help promote change in our world and in the sewing community.
We, at Simplifi Fabric are ashamed and outraged with what is happening and what has happened, not only in the USA but here in Canada too. We do not condone, nor support any of the systemic institutionalized violence committed against black people in recent weeks, or any racial/marginalized/gender motivated violence or discrimination for that matter. We, at Simplifi Fabric are 100% inclusive and do not tolerate any such actions.
Having said all of this, here is our plan of action to better ourselves, our business and support our local community organizations:
Donate - We will be donating a portion of sales to local/Canadian charity organizations - focussing on Indigenous, Black and marginalized groups (local Canadian charity suggestions welcome!)
Resource - We have an ever expanding resource list on our blog called “a list of Canadian Black, anti-racist organizations, books and podcasts” (please let us know if you have anything else to add)
Feature - We will continue feature diverse makers on our blog and social media platforms. Visibility and representation is important to if you know of any makers interested in being featured please send us a message on instagram @simplififabric or via email
Knowledge - Our small team of women is committed to on-going learning and listening - sharing articles, podcasts, books etc - knowledge is wealth!
We are always looking to improve - we welcome any suggestions or comments. We appreciate your support!
